Our Beginning

When I first arrived in Isla Vista, I noticed that students and locals alike longed for a bowl of food that could bring both warmth and strength. At that moment, I thought of two Japanese classics — ramen and curry. To me, they are more than just dishes; they are comfort itself. That’s why I decided to open Kaiju: to give people here their own “bowl of comfort,” even far from home.
Our Inspiration

Kaiju in Japanese means ‘giant monster’. I chose this name because I wanted our food to be the same — big in portion, bold in flavor, and unforgettable in memory. Whether it’s a rich tonkotsu ramen or a crispy katsu with thick curry, my goal is to surround every guest with a feeling of strength and satisfaction.
Our Commitment

At Kaiju, we do more than serve meals — we create connections between people. Students gather here after class, friends meet over a cup of milk tea, and visitors from afar find a sense of warmth that feels familiar. I believe food is not only about taste, but also about sharing, companionship, and belonging.
